Enjoy a relaxed-paced walking tour overlooking breathtaking panoramic views of Seoul. This gentle hike along the Seoul City Wall offers both historical insight and serene natural beauty.
The 17 km-long city wall, originally built in 1396 during the Joseon Dynasty, once encircled the capital, climbing over Namsan, tracing the city¡¯s valleys, and stretching to the top of Bugaksan Mountain.
The wall was constructed with impressive dimensions - around 6 meters thick at its base and between 3 to 6 meters high - built to protect the heart of the kingdom.
Eight monumental gates were originally incorporated into the wall, including Seoul¡¯s most iconic landmarks - Sungnyemun and Heunginjimun. Unfortunately, large portions of the wall and its gates were demolished during the Japanese colonial era and later damaged in the Korean War.
For decades, access to the Bugaksan section was restricted for security reasons. However, with its reopening on April 5, 2007, the 4.3 km-long stretch has become one of Seoul¡¯s most charming walking trails, blending ancient stonework with sweeping cityscapes - a true harmony of old and new.
